THE MYLAR MIRROR

In the distorted, warped images of Ira Cohen's Mylar photography, people turn into liquid and flow forward into a prophetic or visionary future. By pushing reflections of reality through the twisting shapes of Mylar, the psychedelic poet-photographer became an Alchemist of Light. Many who have known him and his photographic subjects have pointed out that the flowing distortions of his imagery are closer to spiritual truth than the mundane reality we see with the naked eye. Cohen's work is another indication that in the hands of the blessed, the visionary, or the cursed, reflective surfaces become tools to witness and communicate with higher orders of being.
